Why would a princess eat a stone? Midmun was once the magical capital of the world, so why doesn't magic work? Princess Niren's marriage was arranged at the time of her birth, so why have seven... eight... NINE princes come courting? Niren must wed to become queen, so why is she seeking magical protection against falling in love? Each of the princes has certain gifts, and everyone involved will be tested. Which of the princes can break through the wall around Niren's heart, and how will he manage that without breaking her heart, as well.
Fans of fantasy and fairy tales will enjoy Nicole B Hicks' first novel, which explores themes of fear, risk and reward, good versus evil, and overcoming who we were for who we would like to become.

I genuinely enjoyed this book. There are a lot of characters to keep track of, but I suspect this will make a lot of great fodder for sequels should this be the first in a series. I would recommend this book to anyone who liked the Mistmantle Chronicles, the Redwall series, The Tale of Despereaux, etc. The characters here are not animals, but the setting and story have a similar cadence and flavor.Product details

Stone Why the Princess Ate the Stone eBook Nicole B Hicks Amy P Simmonds Cassandra J LaPorte Reviews
This was the perfect book to curl up with over the weekend. I was snowed in, feeling the need to be transported to another place.
Nicole B. Hicks’ Stone does just that! Upon opening this delightful novel, I was fully immersed in an imaginative new fairtytale. The main characters aren’t lacking in development, and you’ll enjoy discovering the magical abilities of Midmun, as each person is exposed to both good and evil.
Nicole’s writing was well paced, I wasn’t rushing to the end, but I couldn’t seem to put it down either! The plot follows a Princess, who is forced to marry in order to rule her kingdom. Due to an unfortunate event, there are a series of princess who come to her castle, though due to black magic from the Regent, none appear to be a good match. Then there is the issue of the Stone which she has swallowed in order to protect herself. I can’t go into more detail without spoiling anything for you, but I promise it’s well worth the read!
Without wishing to give away any spoilers, I did find myself wishing for a little more detail at the end. The “I love you” scene felt slightly rushed, even under the circumstances. The ending was definitely geared toward a younger audience, essentially summarizing the moral of the story, but it was good nonetheless.
There’s a pretty big detail slipped in at the end about what to expecting the next book, and I can’t wait to see what Nicole B. Hicks has in store for book two!
Very good story line. I look forward to reading more from this author.
Great book from a great author! Hope to see a sequel soon!
Loved the book! Hated to put it down; read it in a day! When a book holds my interest, as I near the end, I start reading faster because I want to see how it turns out. Can't wait for the sequel to come out!
Stone is a clever fantasy combining innocence and cunning with memorable characters and a plot line that holds the readers attention. An enjoyable, very readable story that has me waiting anxiously for the sequel.
This is a wonderful story. I bought it and devoured it in one night. I got very little sleep, but it was worth it!
This was a fantastic tale! Nicole's words wove together a rich tapestry of a story that captured my imagination. Well worth the read, I actually lost sleep in favor of finishing the story. My mom stole the book halfway through us reading together and finished it before I could. (My mom doesn't read very often unless a book can spark her interest and hold her attention.) We both eagerly await the next book!
The characters here are not animals, but the setting and story have a similar cadence and flavor.
